Can you really test for paternity at home?
In our local newspaper today there was an article about paternity tests. The case of Anna Nicole Smith’s child has just brought to light an issue that might have been hiding in the shadows. But has it really? A few weeks ago I had to take my child to a hospital for a medical test. While we were waiting for it to be finished we sat in the waiting room. I did not have control of the television set, so I was stuck watching the Maury Povich show. What was the topic of his show? Paternity test results.
If you had a question as to the paternity of your child, what would you do? Would you go on a national syndicated television show like the Jerry Springer show or the Maury Povich show, or would you prefer to resolve this issue in a more private way? You can actually take a paternity test at home and have the results mailed to you. I was searching on the web about this topic (out of curiosity, not need) and there are a few companies that offer paternity testing at home. While the cost is not extremely expensive, it will still run you above $400 on the average to have the testing done (more if you want to take a test where the results would be admissible in court). And the tests are pretty accurate. You need to do research to make sure the lab is an accredited lab, but you’ll get results that are good from an AABC or CAP accredited facility.
Did you ever think that this would be possible? It sounds like something from a science fiction movie in the 70′s but you can test for paternity at home. And all it takes is a swab from the mouth to find out.
